This spring, I'm taking part in an interesting
interactive art project organized by the art studio
Zocalo.
Fifteen of their artists have paired up with fifteen artists
from outside studios (Milles Feuilles of Rouyn-Noranda, Atelier
Circulaire, and Graff of Montreal, Presse-Papier of Trois
Rivieres, and others in France and Cuba) to create a postal art
correspondence. Each artist prints 20 original postcards in
black and white using any printmaking technique, and sends them
one by one to her (his) partner, who finishes the image in any
way desired, for example ink, printing, collage. These pieces
will be shown in an exhibition at Zocalo, during the National
Culture Days event in Autumn of this year. The idea is to create
a real dialog between artists, and to stimulate creativity,
curiosity and artistic research by allowing (and planning for)
one's work to be modified by another artist. It is indeed
exciting, scary and fun!
My partner in this project is
Céline Goudreau. Céline and I agreed it would be interesting
to show our work-in-progress on the internet, rather than only
showing the finished work at the scheduled exhibition. While we
may change the format eventually when we have all the work done,
I thought for the moment that a nice simple way of displaying
our work would be four Photoshop-created filmstrip galleries:
My original pieces
in black and white;
Céline's original pieces in black and white;
Céline's B/W pieces modified in color by me;
my B/W pieces modified by Céline.
