An online art gallery of playful abstract mixed-media printmaking and painting, exploring the interplay between improvisation/intuition and control/selection. Inspired by mathematics, biology, computers and physics, these pieces are imaginary representation of the abstract beauty of purely conceptual concepts such as mathematical functions or equations. Graphical elements include scans, often greatly enlarged, of natural-media work; handwriting and calligraphy; gestural marks and textures. Franzini’s work retains the velvety texture and ‘from the hand of the artist’ feel of traditional printmaking while exploring the expanded visual vocabulary afforded by digital technology.
